Ik moet toegeven, ik hou ook van urbex. Tenminste van het foto’s nemen. Het opzoekingswerk is minder mijn ding.

“Some reasonable opinions have been offered for why we can’t stop looking at ruin porn, but few have informed their positions with behavioral science. The evidence is admittedly thin, and the individual motivations too varied and complex for any easy explanation. So we identified six psychological concepts that might give at least a little insight into why that dilapidated warehouse is so awkwardly appealing. Consider them the ruin porn of your mind.”

Nu we toch bezig zijn met UrBex, hierbij dan een Franse visie gebaseerd op de opinie van drie mensen.

Iemand geïnteresseerd om mee te gaan?

Deze plaats staat al enkele jaren op mijn lijstje. Maar alleen wil ik er niet naartoe gaan. Vandaar bovenstaande vraag ondanks enkele heel kritische maar terechte opmerkingen van de auteur van het artikel.

“I would go so far as to say that Pripyat is often portrayed as some kind of Mecca amongst the urban exploration community, while the photographic results, certainly, rank as some of the finest examples of decay photography you’ll find on the web. However, while photographs of Pripyat may appear the very definition of urban exploration, in practice, I would argue that a tour of the city couldn’t be further from the true spirit of the term.”

Henk Van Rensbergen

Ik ben vandaag naar de tentoonstelling geweest van de foto’s van Henk Van Rensbergen. Je weet wel, de fotograaf die gespecialiseerd is in UrbEx, verlaten en/of vervallen gebouwen.

De tentoonstelling gaat door in het Salvatorhuis in Antwerpen in een … vervallen huis dat binnenkort gerestaureerd wordt. Ook hier weer, zoals in zoveel verhalen over vervallen gebouwen, is het geschikt om opgenomen te worden in het boek van Kafka.

Er hangen een veertigtal foto’s in hun “natuurlijke omgeving” op dibond met de gepaste verlichting. De combinatie is fantastisch maar vergeet niet om u een beetje te verplaatsen wanneer je de foto’s bewondert. Ga niet altijd pal in het midden van de foto staan. Soms komen de foto’s in kwestie beter uit wanneer je ze van links of rechts bekijkt.

Er moet €4 betaald worden aan de deur, het boek is zijn geld waard en Henk zal al uw vragen beantwoorden zoals het een echte gentleman past.
