Voor mij mag elke fotograaf zoveel photoshoppen als zij of hij maar wil. En mogen ze zoveel in scène zetten als ze willen. Behalve de persfotografen.

“The international jury of the 57th annual World Press Photo Contest has selected an image by American photographer John Stanmeyer of the VII Photo Agency as the World Press Photo of the Year 2013.”

“And that’s what I tell World Press Photo – every year they choose a conflict photo as the picture of the year, they are screwing the industry. Every time. They have chosen ours in the past, so I’m quite happy with it. But just don’t do it all the time.”
.. en hij kan het weten. En hij heeft nog gelijk ook.

World Press Photo en Human Rights Watch hebben een nieuwe beurs voor fotojournalisten opgericht ter nagedachtenis van TIm Hetherington. Deze laatste is de Britse fotograaf die in april om het leven kwam tijdens een vuurgevecht in Misrata in Libië. Tijdens die aanval werd een andere fotojournalist Chris Hondros eveneens gedood en werden Guy Martin en Michael Christopher Brown gewond.
De Hetherington Grant is € 20.000 waard en zal naar een fotograaf gaan die aan een project werkt dat de mensenrechten als thema heeft.

Stepan Rudik, winnaar van de ‘3rd prize story in Sports Features’ werd gediskwalificeerd omdat hij de regels van de wedstrijd overtreden heeft. Na controle van de RAW-bestanden heeft de jury gemerkt dat er een ‘element’ verwijderd werd van het origineel. De regels zijn duidelijk:
“The content of the image must not be altered. Only retouching which conforms to the currently accepted standards in the industry is allowed.”
